Automist turns a standard monobloc tap into a fire protection device. A simple, retrofittable, sprinkler-alternative, it offers full room active fire suppression by utilising “water-mist” technology. In the event of a fire, a reliable wireless heat detector triggers an under-sink pump. The pump then drives mains water through the unique spray head which quickly fills the volume with inerting fog, suppressing the blaze whilst minimising consequential water damage. Automist can be used as a compensatory measure to meet Building Regulations after a refurbishment, such as loft conversion or open plan layout, and can also be wall and surface mounted.
In 2009 Automist won the James Dyson Award and in 2010 was named one of the top 15 inventions of the last decade by the British Library.
James Dyson said:
“This simple but clever device should become a permanent safety feature in the home. Smoke alarms are essential part of modern life but have remained fundamentally unchanged for forty years. Automist not only detects a fire but can put it out as well.”
